Serve and Volley

Is the serve and volleyer dead? Considering I'm a serve and volleyer, SV from now on. The biggest problem is the speed of my serve and the speed of the return--for a SV to be successful, I must make contact with the first volley somewhere around the service line, BUT the harder I serve the faster I must get in AND if the returner steps in or hits it back harder, it's difficult to get in.

Tennis Strategy: Against a Dinker

Song Kran in Khon Kaen

This is what you look like during Song Kran. The powder is for good luck...

The holiday is known as Song Kran, or the Thai New Year. It marks the transition from one year to the next. It was a wild time and I enjoyed riding around in a truck throwing water at people.

The Forbidden Kingdom

This movie has everything you would want from a movie. The fight scenes are many and well-done with a classic one between no other than Jet Li and Jackie Chan. The plot is excellent and keeps you guessing to a certain degree and the cinema itself is beautiful, bringing to mind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's worth every cent to see this one.

Video your practice

If college and pro coaches for every other sport is videoing and analyzing their practices, why do we not do the same.

I've been videoing my practices and come to the following conclusions:
1) my game is very intericate--meaning i play alot of low percentage shots, always have and probably always will, but to do so, i need to practice. Over the course of 25 years, I have always coached--this is the first year of my life where I'm not spending time on the tennis court, thus, my skills are eroding.

the solution is obvious, increased court time and video analysis.

from that, I notice that I'm not stepping into my shots, bending, and springing. These are big issues in my game, and I'll have to address it. Also, on my forehand, I'm making contact with an open shoulder, extended arm, and quick snap--which makes my contact a bit helter skelter.

the goal over the next few weeks is to focus on using more body and a smoother contact, a more of a push contact as opposed to a pull.

we'll see.
