Covering the court is one of the hardest things to teach and learn, but it's very similar to a zone in basketball or a coverage in volleyball. You cover what's in front of you like basketball and you cover what can happen like volleyball.



keep at it, try to place yourself between the two possibilities. Think about it as you play and later, it'll become second nature.

how alot of club players play unfortunately

I think they play like this because they can't volley. and unless, someone teaches you to volley, generally, you won't be able to volley. I was really lucky to be taught how to volley and then, as a junior player, I played with old guys who hit to me soft, so it allowed me to come to net--that was amazing as a junior player, playing guys that always got the return back, but it was so soft...and we were losing to these softies...
